Six college bound city students attending private schools thanks to the Tri-County Scholarship Fund received a surprise visit from Gov. Chris Christie at the scholarships’ annual lawyers’ dinner at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit.

Paramus Catholic High School students Genesis Perez, DeAndre Tomlinson, Kevin Arias, and Mary Help of Christian Academy students Chrystal Donayre, Ashley Contreras, Jennifer Mora-Amaya were pleasantly surprised at meeting their governor at Thursday’s fundraiser.

$40,000 was raised at the event to further the Tri-County Scholarship Fund which awards scholarships to inner city students to attend high quality private schools. All six Paterson students will be attending college in the fall.

Arias will attend Cornell University. Tomlinson will head to Indiana to attend Notre Dame University. Perez will attend Rutgers University.

Donayre will be attending Montclair University. Contreras will be heading to Delaware to attend the University of Delaware. Mora-Amaya is attending St. John’s University in nearby New York.

Christie recognized the scholarship funds’ ability to change the lives of students from poor families.

The Tri-County Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit, will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the Annual Tri-County Scholarship Fund Awards Dinner on November 7, 2016, at the Hanover Marriot in Parsippany.
