A 20-year-old Connecticut man was arrested with crack-cocaine and marijuana at the parking lot of White Castle on Broadway, said police director Jerry Speziale on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, Alexander Martin, of Middlebury, Conn., was arrested on drug charges at about 7:32 p.m. on Friday, said the director.

Martin was caught on surveillance exiting a 2014 Ford Fusion to place a green bag of marijuana, which contained 117 grams of marijuana, in the trunk behind a carpet. He looked about the trunk and obtained a large amount of cash, walked into the White Castle, spoke with an individual before walking up to the counter.

Police said Martin then got a bag of food and returned to his car. Officers pulled in to the parking lot and placed Martin under arrest for marijuana possession. A search yielded a bag of crack-cocaine, 23 grams, on Martin’s person.

Speziale said Martin admitted the drugs belonged to him. Two other individuals, all from Connecticut, were also in the vehicle, both were released, said the director.

Martin was processed and bail is set at $100,000, said the director.

“We will continue to arrest those who use Paterson for a source of illegal drugs,” said Speziale.
