The early morning fire at a vacant North 6th Street home left seven people displaced, according to deputy fire chief Frank Calamita.

Calamita said the blaze began at 5:07 a.m. on Wednesday at the three-story home in the corner of North 6th and Temple streets.

It quickly engulfed the building resulting in firefighters evacuating residents from nearby homes. Residents from fire exposed 154 Temple Street were displaced as a result.

“Right now, majority of the building collapsed,” said Calamita on Wednesday afternoon. He said this has left deep pockets of hotspots inside the building.

The main fire was knocked down by 8 a.m., he said.

No one was injured from the fire.

Calamita said the building has to be demolished for firefighters to completely extinguish the flames.
