15 charged with drug offenses in Paterson’s weekly drug sweep

Police officers arrested 15 people on drug charges in the city’s weekly drug enforcement operation, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said police seized 818 glassine packets of heroin, 31 baggies of marijuana, 27 Xanax pills, 4 bags of powder cocaine, a fentanyl patch, and a methadone pill.

Three stolen firearms were also confiscated during the narcotics sweep from June 14th to 20th, 2016.

$1,140 in cash was also seized during the operation, said the director.

City residents charged in the sweep were Toniesha Moore aka “Ne Ne,” 23, of Lawrence Street;  Blady O. Diaz, 35, of Carroll Street; Alex Torres aka “Alex Iglesias” aka “Alex Torres-Iglesisa,” 41, of Rosa Parks Boulevard; Osvaldo Correa-Martinez, 55, of Rosa Parks Boulevard;  Rashon Alexander, 34, of 8th Avenue; Jamere Coleman, 24, of North 4th Street; Jason White, 37, of East 19th Street; Raymond Redfern, 52, of 17th Avenue; Koshaad James, 20, of May Street; Hector Bonilla, 46, of Totowa Avenue; and Sherre N. Smith, 46, of Summer Street.

Also charged were Jasmine Jerez, 24, of Fair Lawn; Samantha Curving, 22, of Succasauna; Nelson Rodriguez, 30, of Garfield; and James D. Cogan, 31, of Bergenfield.

Moore was arrested with 249 glassines of heroin on Governor and Carroll Streets on June 14th, 2016. Police also seized $188 in cash from Moore.

Diaz was arrested with 3 glassines of heroin on the same day at 466 Rosa Parks Boulevard, according to police.

Torres and Correa-Martinez were arrested at 10 18th Avenue with three stolen weapons — Bersa Thunder .380 caliber, North American Arms .22 caliber, and AA Arms.9mm Luger Model AP9 — and 11 hollow point bullets.

Both were also charged with having a large capacity magazine and 7 glassines of heroin.

Jerez and Curving were arrested on Hamilton Avenue and East 23rd Street on June 15th, 2016 for having 10 glassines of heroin.

Alexander was arrested with 8 baggies of marijuana on Hamilton Avenue and East 22nd Street, according to police.

Coleman was arrested on June 16th, 2016 at 128 North 4th Street with 48 glassines of heroin.

Police arrested Rodriguez at 319 Main Street on June 17th, 2016. He was charged with having 1 fentanyl patch, 1 methadone pill, 14 glassines of heroin, 4 Xanax pills, and 4 baggies of powder cocaine.

$535 in cash was taken from Rodriguez.

On the same day, police charged White with having 23 baggies of marijuana on 12th Avenue and East 24th Street.

Redfern, Cogan, and James were arrested on June 20th, 2016 at 159 Governor Street. Police charged James with having 487 glassines of heroin.

James allegedly sold 1 packet of heroin to Redfern and another packet to Cogan. $265 in drug money was seized from James, said the director.

Bonilla and Smith were arrested the same day at Summer Street and Broadway. Smith was charged with having 23 Xanax pills.

Smith sold 2 pills to Bonilla, according to police. $152 in suspected drug money was seized from Smith.

“The men and women of the department will continue their tireless efforts to rid our city of illegal drugs,” said Speziale.
