A 19-year-old city man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg early Wednesday morning on 20th Avenue, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police said the victim related he was walking on 20th Avenue between Beech and Madison Streets when he heard sounds of shots fired at about 12:05 a.m. He attempted to run from the area, but was struck by gunfire in the lower leg, said police.

The victim arrived at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center by private vehicle seeking treatment. He remains in stable condition, said the director.

“We will continue to vigorously pursue those responsible and they will face swift and decisive justice,” said Speziale. “If this is determined that this is group related the focus deterrent team will also be deployed.”
