Sayegh: Pedro Rodriguez is the poster child for political patronage in Paterson

Sadly, Pedro Rodriguez is trying to deflect attention from the real issue at hand. Paterson is mired in arguably the worst fiscal crisis in our city’s history and all non-essential positions should be considered for elimination.

Clearly, Pedro has not done his homework. The Sixth Ward specifically, South Paterson has experienced significant economic growth within the last seven years. Our strategy has been to make the section stronger by making the area safer.

We shut down numerous notorious nightclubs and have made the area more conducive for business development. This model of entrepreneurial expansion in the Sixth Wards should be replicated throughout the city.

In addition to his paid position within the city’s police department, Pedro was appointed by Mayor Torres as a Deputy Mayor and a Commissioner on the Planning Board. His salary of $70,000 could help cover the cost of keeping the summer camps open for an extra week.

I believe that our priority should be the successful development of our children not the well-being of Pedro Rodriguez, the poster child for political patronage in Paterson.

Andre Sayegh
Councilman of the 6th Ward
