Stephon Harris thought he got away from authorities when he outran detectives through several backyards on Wednesday afternoon as officers chased him after observing an alleged hand-to-hand drug transaction on East 23rd Street and Park Avenue.

Harris, 31, got away that day, but on Saturday as he sat on the stoop of a business on Park Avenue and East 22nd Street, the same detectives caught up with him.

Detectives placed him under arrest. A search produced 21 zip-lock baggies of crack-cocaine, authorities said. When he ran from detectives on Wednesday dropping his bicycle, authorities said, he allegedly tossed 390 glassine envelopes of heroin.

Authorities charged him with drug possession, distribution, and distribution within 1,000 feet of a school.

The drugs allegedly seized from the Paterson resident are valued at $3,850 on the street, authorities said. Authorities said Harris is being held at the Paterson police lockup on $30,000 bail without 10-percent option.

Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik said suspects need to realize they cannot run from authorities for too long. “I want to commend the Detectives involved in making this arrest,” Berdnik said.
