29-year-old city resident Franklin Valdez refused to be a victim early Wednesday morning when he trapped a robbery suspect who was after his cash inside the vestibule of the Chase Bank in downtown Paterson, according to police.

Police said the suspect Lester Mooring, 35-year-old, was trapped inside the bank’s ATM area at about 6:25 a.m. with Valdez holding the door to ensure Mooring could not get away. As police officers arrived, Mooring smashed the glass door and entered the bank to escape, said police.

Police officers Diosnedy Lanfranco and Fausto Caamano entered and arrested Mooring after a brief struggle, according to police.

“The quick response and piecing the situation together by the officers ended a dangerous situation quickly,” said police director Jerry Speziale.
