A city man is alleging in a federal lawsuit 10-15 police officers viciously attacked him outside of a South Paterson nightclub.

Nedal Abdallah alleges police officers charged at him with guns aimed at him while commanding he put his hands up as he exited Paradise Cafe on August 11, 2014 at about 9 p.m.

“What’s going on?” he asked the two police officers repeatedly, according to the lawsuit. He alleges police officers put him in a headlock and threw him to the ground. Both officers beat him with batons once he fell to the ground, he alleges in the lawsuit.

He was “kicked and beat repeatedly” by the initial arresting officers. Those two officers called back up bringing 10 to 15 officers to the scene who allegedly “engaged in punching and kicking” Abdallah, according to the complaint.

Police charged Abdallah with aggravated assault and riot, according to the complaint. He states in the lawsuit he suffered “extensive injuries” due to the alleged incident.

The lawsuit names police officers K. Kunzig, R. Rayfield, F. Rendina, and F. Khan. The lawsuit states police officers violated Abdallah’s various civil rights.
