Paterson shooting victim dies from injuries, police

A 22-year-old man who was wounded in an early Sunday morning shooting on Carroll Street died from his injuries this morning, according to police.

Police said Kasiem McCaskill died at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center at 1 a.m. on Monday.

McCaskill and a 24-year-old man were wounded in a shooting on Carroll Street between Harrison and Governor Streets at about 3:45 a.m. on Sunday.

McCaskill was shot multiple times, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Both victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The 24-year-old victim remains in critical condition at the hospital, said police captain Richard Reyes. He said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. He could not release further information about the incident, said the captain.

This was the city’s 13th shooting this month. This weekend’s violence claimed the life of 20-year-old Genico Robinson outside of 88 North Main Street on Saturday.

Later on Saturday, a 32-year-old woman was wounded in the hand while at the parking lot of a housing complex on Sandy Court and Temple Street, said police.

No arrests have been made in connection with the Carrol Street shooting at this time, said authorities.
