A city man has been arrested for crashing his vehicle into a car occupied by an elderly man and woman on Wednesday night, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Owen Palmer, 29-year-old, drove a 2003 BMW X3 without license and crashed into a 2002 Kia Sedona occupied by a 77-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman at the intersection of 14th Avenue and East 30th Street at 9 p.m., authorities said.

Authorities said the woman sustained a fractured collarbone and rib while the man suffered neck fractures.

Police chased Palmer for failing to halt at a traffic sign at 11th Avenue and East 29th Street, but lost sight of the vehicle.

Authorities said police were not actively in pursuit of the vehicle when the crash occurred.

Palmer has been charged with eluding, assault by auto causing serious bodily injury, and causing serious bodily injury while unlicensed.

The charges carry a maximum 13-year prison sentence, authorities said.  His bail is set at $50,000.

Authorities said all parties were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center after the crash.

Palmer’s first court appearance will be set after he is released from hospital.
