Paterson man killed in East 19th Street shooting


A 24-year-old city man was killed in an early Sunday morning shooting on East 19th Street, according to police.

Police said the victim, Christian Cuevas, was found wounded at East 19th Street and 17th Avenue intersection at about 4:33 a.m. He was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Detective sergeant Abelmoni Hamdeh and detective Anthony Petrazzuolo responded to the scene with Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office detective Sabrina McKoy. The hospital emergency room informed police the victim had died while in the emergency room.

This is the city’s 13th shooting this month. 10 people have been wounded and 3 people killed in September so far. The city experienced a bloody August that spilled into September with shootings occurring every weekend.
