Paterson’s weekly drug sweep nets 21 arrests, more than 1,600 packets of heroin

Police arrested 21 people and seized 1,625 packets of heroin in the city’s weekly drug sweep, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police also seized 246 baggies of crack-cocaine, 25 baggies of marijuana, 15 Ecstasy, 12 Xanax, and 9 Percocet pills from September 27th through October 3rd, 2016, according to police.

$2,991 in drug money was also seized, said police.

City residents arrested were Raheem Leary aka “Rah,” 37, of Lafayette Street; Shaquanna D. Shaw, 32, of Lafayette Street; Devin C. Ismail, 33, of East Holsman Street; Joseph S. Distefano aka “Joe,” 37, of East Holsman Street; Benjamin N. Elias, 30, of North 9th Street; Harry Alexander, 31, of Union Avenue; Javar Williams, 33, of Presidential Boulavard; Marvin O. Jackson, 31, of Fulton Place; Anthony A. Cordero, 18, Grand Street; Namier Francis, 21, of North 6th Street; Corey Boyd, 19, of Carroll Street; Carlos Iraheta, 19, of North 11th Street; and Tyrone S. Jackson, 18, of Governor Street.

Also arrested were Juan Sanchez, 57, of Hawthorne; David B. Menaker aka “Chino,” 32, of Monroe; Edward C. Estolero, 24, of Lyndhurst; Clarence L. Wright, 54, of Newark; Geanmarco Serrano, 18, of Prospect Park; a 16-year-old Prospect Park boy; a 17-year-old Haledon boy; and Adhemar Castillo, 18, of Passaic City.

Leary and Shaw were arrested for having 719 glassines of heroin, 246 baggies of crack-cocaine, 15 ecstasy pills, and a baggie of marijuana at 70 Lafayette Street on September 27th, 2016. Police also charged both for having paraphernalia.

$955 was seized from Leary.

Sanchez, Menaker, Ismail, Distefano, Elias, and Alexander were charged with drug offenses at 109 North Main Street on September 28th, 2016.

Elias and Alexander were charged with having 19 glassines of heroin. Both allegedly sold 3 glassines to Distefano and Ismail; and 2 glassines to Menaker.

Distefano, Ismail, and Menaker were charged with heroin possession. Sanchez was charged with loitering to commit a drug offense, said police.

Police seized $194 from Elias and $160 from Alexander.

The next day police arrested Williams at 43 Carroll Street with 500 glassines of heroin and $421 in drug proceeds.

Estolero and Wright were caught with prescription pills at 275 Broadway on the same day. Wright was charged with having 12 Xanax and 9 Percocet pills, according to police.

Wright allegedly sold 10 Xanax pills to Estolero. Police also seized $241 in drug money.

Jackson was arrested with 310 glassines of heroin and $361 in drug money at 460 East 26th Street. He was also charged with resisting arrest by running from police.

Cordero was captured with 20 baggies of marijuana at 260 Grand Street on September 30th, 2016. He was also charged with having drug paraphernalia.

Police took $275 from Cordero.

Francis and Boyd were arrested at 30-59 Carroll Street on the same day. Boyd was caught with 77 glassines of heroin and $171 in drug money.

Boyd was also charged with running from police. Francis was charged with loitering to commit a drug offense, said police.

Serrano, Iraheta, 16-year-old, 17-year-old, Castillo, and Jackson were arrested at 208 Governor Street on October 3rd, 2016.

Jackson allegedly had 4 baggies of marijuana. He sold 1 baggie to Iraheta and Serrano. He sold 2 baggies to the 16-year-old, 17-year-old, and Castillo.

Police also seized $240 in suspected drug money from Jackson.
