The city man killed in an early Sunday morning shooting on North Main Street has been identified as 28-year-old Gene Bolie, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Bolie was shot outside of 74 North Main Street at around 1:40 a.m. Police arrived on the scene, rendered medical aid to the victim, and ambulance rushed him to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police said Bolie succumbed to his injuries while in the emergency room.

Detectives Jack DeSalvo, Steve Leishman, and Mary Martinezalong responded to the scene with detective Sabrina McKoy of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bolie is the city’s 19th homicide this year so far. This shooting is part of an escalation in violence that began in August. The city had 7 homicides in the first half of 2016, but that number jumped with continued violence every weekend.

Bolie was arrested on September 9, 2016 for loitering to commit a drug offense at 34 Jefferson Street which is less than a block away from where he was gunned down in Sunday’s shooting.

Authorities said Bolie lives almost two miles away from North Main Street on Seeley Street. Authorities said the investigation into the homicide is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the detectives at the Paterson Police Detective Bureau at (973) 321-1120.
