Paterson’s drug sweep nets 15 arrests, 325 packets of heroin

Police arrested 15 people and seized 325 packets of heroin in their weekly drug sweep throughout the city, said police director Jerry Speziale.

325 glassines of heroin, 45 Ecstasy pills, 20 Xanax pills, 7 baggies of marijuana, 1 zip-lock bag of marijuana, 76 grams pf marijuana, 6 plastic baggies of crack-cocaine, 51 grams of MDMA, and 2 knotted baggies of cocaine were seized in the sweep from November 8th through November 14th, 2016.

Police confiscated $2,436 in cash, said the director.

City residents arrested were Keyve A. Pena, 20, of East 16th Street; Sherelle L. Wallace, 24, of 5th Avenue; Shayna L. Farley, 28, of East 29th Street; Shanaya Jackson, 29, of Broadway; Jahad Crayton aka “B,” 26, of Butler Street; Rolando E. Ortiz, 24, of Jefferson Street; Robert Carmona, 31, of East 25th Street; 16-year-old boy; and Carlos Urena, 24, of Front Street.

Also arrested were Cortney Applebaum, 37, of Manalapan; Abdus Muslim, 52, of Prospect Park; Rasheem A. Muslim, 36, of Irvington; Ruben Nina, 31, of Newark; Dylan N. Vandorden, 32, of Hewitt; and Roberto Arias, 22, of Haledon.

Applebaum, Abdus Muslim, and Rasheem A. Muslim were arrested on November 8th, 2016.

Police charged Applebaum with having 128 baggies of heroin and Abdus Muslim with having 6 plastic baggies of crack-coacine.

Rasheem A. Muslim was charged with having 128 glassines of heroin. He allegedly sold to Abdus Muslim and Applebaum. Police charged him with six drug offenses.

$477 in suspected drug money was seized from Rasheem A. Muslim.

Pena, Wallace, Farley, Jackson, and Crayton were arrested in a drug bust at 65 Butler Street on November 9th, 2016.

Pena, Wallace, Farley, Jackson were charged with having 1 baggie of marijuana. Crayton allegedly sold to Pena, Wallace, Farley, Jackson.

Police charged Crayton of having 76 grams of marijuana, 51 grams of MDMA, 45 Ecstasy pills, 20 Xanax pills, and 100 glassines of heroin.

Crayton, lives at 65 Butler Street, also had drug paraphernalia. $1,803 in drug money was seized from his home.

Police arrested Ortiz for obstructing a government function and resisting arrest by force at 176 Union Avenue on November 12th, 2016.

Carmona and Nina were charged with having 1 baggie of cocaine at 304 21st Avenue on November 12th, 2016.

Vandorden, 16-year-old city boy, Urena, and Arias were arrested on Madison and Essex Streets on November 14th, 2016.

Police charged Vandorden, 16-year-old city boy with having 1 baggie of marajuana. Urena was charged with having 7 baggies of marajuana. He allegedly sold to the 16-year-old.

$61 in drug money was seized from Urena, said police.

Arias was charged with having 97 glassines of heroin and 2 knotted baggies of coacine. $95 in suspected drug money was seized from Arias. He was charged with six drug offenses, said police.

“The continued efforts of the narcotics division has been making an impact on the illegal drug trade,” said Speziale.
