New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz collected more than 600 toys for children of families in need at the Summit Medical Group Foundation’s second annual holiday toy drive on Monday.

“It’s important to give back to the community’s children and families so they may be able to enjoy Christmas,” Cruz said as children, parents, football fans, and employees of Summit Medical Group lined up to hand over their new, unwrapped toys and get their photos taken with the football star.

Many of Cruz’s diehard fans wore the New York Giants number 80 jersey. The toy drive was held in partnership with the Victor Cruz Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic.

“We are proud to spearhead the annual Holiday Toy Drive, and to work with Victor Cruz, the Victor Cruz Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic. It is very gratifying to see the enormous response and generosity of Summit Medical Group employees and their families,” Joe Finocchiaro, executive director of Summit Medical Group Foundation, said. “We know from our ongoing work at Summit Medical Group Foundation how efforts like the Holiday Toy Drive can make a difference in the lives of needy members in our community.”

The toy drive is among a number of initiatives the group conducts including an annual coat drive and a backpack drive. The 600 plus toys collected on Monday is expected to increase as the drive has one week remaining to gather more toys for children to spread holiday cheers and spirit to families in need.
