A second-alarm fire at a Park Avenue building on Tuesday night claimed the life of one person, according to mayor Jose “Joey” Torres.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the medical examiner’s office were at the fire scene, according to officials. Authorities have yet to release any information about the incident or the victim.

Firefighters responded to a blaze at 56 Park Avenue at about 9:36 p.m., said deputy fire chief William Henderson. Firefighters found the second floor of the building had heavy fire.

Henderson said 14 people were displaced from the 2.5 story building. The American Red Cross provided assistance to the displaced residents. He said no firefighters were injured in the incident.

The flames were brought under control by 11 p.m.

Correction: A previous report erroneously stated the fire came in at 7:30 p.m. when in fact it came in at 9:36 p.m.
