Five men have been arrested and charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses for their role in a weekend shooting on lower Main Street, said police director Jerry Speziale on Thursday morning.

Carlos Hinostroza, 39, of Newark; Luis Gervasi, 23, of Clifton; Jorge Nakano, 38, of Paterson; Adolfo Zuloaga, 22, of Passaic City; and Carlos Suarez-Montoya, 30, of Lodi have been charged with weapons offenses, said police.

Hinostroza is additionally charged with attempted murder. Police said a 23-year-old city man was shot at about 4:05 a.m. on Saturday at a large social gathering inside a property on Main Street between Memorial Drive and Broadway.

Police said a physical altercation broke out at the gathering during which weapons were produced and shots were fired. The victim in the shooting suffered a graze wound to the head, said police.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He has been treated and released, said police.

Ceasefire Unit detective sergeant Anthony Hyatt, detectives Christopher Ravallese, and Joehan Suarez investigated the shooting and identified the five individuals as actors in the incident.

The detectives seized “several weapons” during their investigation, said the director. Police said the investigation is continuing at this time.

“Those involved in the investigation worked tirelessly to remove dangerous criminals from our streets for a safer Paterson,” said Speziale.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact detectives Ravallese or Suarez of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342. Information can be submitted to detectives anonymously via PatersonPD.com.
