A 21-year-old city man standing in front of an East Main Street business with a gun protruding from his waistband was chased through a backyard and arrested on Tuesday night, according to police.

Police charged Kishun S. Hill with weapon possession and resisting arrest. He was standing in front of 101 East Main Street at about 9:30 p.m. when detectives on patrol of high crime zones in the city approached him.

Detectives Joehan Suarez, Salvatore Marotta, and Jason English got out of their unmarked vehicle to investigate due to a rash of robberies that have hit local businesses. Hill fled on foot triggering a chase. Detectives chased him onto North 1st Street, where he allegedly discarded a semi-automatic handgun.

English recovered the handgun while the Suarez and Marotta continued to pursue Hill into the backyard of a North 1st Street property.  Hill tried to scale a fence, but was unsuccessful.

Detectives Anthony Castronova and William Hermann arrived on the scene and assisted in arresting Hill, said police director Jerry Speziale.

“While it was a busy night for the Paterson Police Department the men and women really showed their tenacity to make a safer city,” said the director.
