A 28-year-old woman from Nutley with a two-year-old in her car led police officers on a chase through 21st Avenue on Tuesday night.

Police officers saw the woman, Samantha Evers,  complete a drug transaction with 44-year-old Eric Hunter of Newark on Vreeland and 21st Avenues at about 11:46 p.m. She was seen exchanging small objects for paper currency, said police.

Evers drove on 21st Avenue and turned on McLean Boulevard as detective Mohan Singh followed her in an undercover vehicle awaiting the arrival of back up units to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

Unmarked police vehicles with emergency sirens and lights tried to pull her over, but she refused to stop. Police said the woman had the 2-year-old not strapped in a car seat as required by New Jersey law.

Detective Louis Pacelli found the woman stuck in traffic at Route 46 and Crooks Avenue. She was found with 60 glassines of heroin, said police.

Police officers returned to Vreeland and 21st Avenue to find her alleged dealer standing in front of 228 Vreeland Avenue. He had 5 glassines of heroin inside a hide a key box, said police. Four grams of heroin was found inside a bag containing rice.

$3,213 in drug money was seized from Hunter.

“This is once again a substantial arrest targeting the demand and supply of those in our city involved in illegal narcotics,” said police director Jerry Speziale.
