The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a police-involved shooting on Fulton Place.
A police officer fired at a suspect armed with a handgun on Fulton Place between East 16th and East 18th Streets at about 1:40 p.m. on Friday. The officer ordered the suspect to drop the handgun, but the suspect refused, according to a law enforcement source, prompting the officer to fire.
Police officers were responding to a call at 289 Fulton Place when the incident happened.
Police director Jerry Speziale said he could not comment on the situation. He said the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the incident.
Correction (4/15/2017): A previous version of this report erroneously used Fulton Place and Fulton Street interchangeably. The shooting occurred on Fulton Place not Fulton Street.
