Firefighters extinguished a single-alarm blaze at a waste disposal site on Canal Street on Tuesday morning, said deputy fire chief Pablo Del Valle.

Fire was reported at the commercial building located at 168 Canal Street at about 11:30 a.m. The blaze was mainly in a stockpile of card board, said the deputy chief.

“We were able to contain it early,” said Del Valle. He said the fire was extinguished at 12:30 p.m.

No one was injured in the incident.

The site remained operational. Several companies – including BJF Sanitation Inc. — operate from the 168 Canal Street address. This is the city’s 12th fire in the last six days.

Canal Street is a small street off of Marshall Street near Atlantic Street.
