1 killed, 1 wounded in separate Paterson shootings

A man was killed and another was wounded in Paterson in separate shootings in the past seventeen hours, according to police.

A man was shot at about 4:50 p.m. on Essex and Madison Streets. He was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment, but died from his injuries. His name has yet to be released by police.

Almost two miles away, in a second shooting at about 1:15 a.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in the arm on 10th Avenue and East 27th Street, according to police. He was taken to the hospital for medical care.

Police said the wounded man was treated and released.

There have been 12 killings in the city so far in 2017. The city had 19 killings in 2016, according to data made public by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
