Paterson woman accused of stabbing man to death during dispute with his uncle

Shaquana-Bradley

A city woman has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter for allegedly stabbing a 31-year-old man to death during a dispute with his uncle on a North 7th Street porch early Saturday morning.

Shaquana Bradley, 27, allegedly stabbed 31-year-old Kayson Scott in the chest on the porch of 66 North 7th Street at around 6:45 a.m. Scott was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead, according to authorities.

Bradley was dating Scott’s uncle Julian Scott, 40, of Paterson. She was involved in a verbal and physical altercation with the uncle on the porch of the North 7th Street home the couple shared. Bradly allegedly threatened both men with a small kitchen knife, but the nephew tried to diffuse the situation by trying to take the knife away from the woman at which point she allegedly stabbed him in the chest.

Police recovered the knife that was used to stab the victim at the crime scene, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Scott is the 13th person to be killed in Paterson in 2017, according to statistics maintained by the Paterson Times. He is the third person to be stabbed to death in Paterson this year.

Bradley has been charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, authorities said.

She faces a maximum of more than 36 years in prison if convicted on the charges. Brady is scheduled to appear before Passaic County Judge John F. Meola on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in courtroom 411.

Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the prosecutor’s office at 1-877-370-PCPO or [email protected] or Paterson detectives at 973-321-1120.
