Sheriff: Alleged Paterson dealer and Pennsylvania buyer arrested in drug bust

An alleged city dealer and a Pennsylvania buyer were arrested in an East 27th Street drug surveillance operation on Thursday afternoon, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Alquan Hamilton, 26, of Paterson, and Jonathan Swift, 29, of Dingmans Fry, Penn., were arrested at around 4:30 p.m. on drug charges. Detectives observed Swift circling around 15th Avenue and idling his black Ford Focus while waiting for Hamilton.

Detectives observed Hamilton approach the vehicle and allegedly exchange a brick of heroin for currency, authorities said.

Hamilton was arrested while walking away and Swift was pulled over a short distance away. A brick of heroin and $129 was recovered in a search of Swift’s car, authorities said.

Detectives searched Hamilton’s East 29th Street apartment and recovered 17 bricks of heroin and $500 in cash.

Authorities charged Swift with heroin possession and released him pending court appearance while Hamilton was charged with heroin possession, distribution, and distribution 1,000 feet of Rosa Parks High School.

Hamilton is being held at the Passaic County Jail.

Drugs seized is valued at $4,000, Berdnik said.
