Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres’ administration awarded $300,000 in federal grant funds to Paterson Habitat for Humanity to build three single-family houses on Rosa Parks Boulevard and Governor Street, according to municipal records.

Habitat will build houses at 59 Rosa Parks Boulevard, 209-211 Governor Street, and 61 Rosa Parks Boulevard.

The city reallocated the funds from its U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HOME Program monies to support building the three homes that will be sold with zero-interest mortgages to low-income families.

Previously, the nonprofit organization was awarded $264,112 in federal grant money to build two single-family homes at 84-86 Godwin Avenue and 87-89 Godwin Avenue. Upon completion, the nonprofit will sell the Godwin Avenue homes at $130,000 to low-income families, according to municipal documents.

It’s not clear when all five homes will be completed.
