We Patersonians must set aside petty differences

letter-to-editor-hq

I want to take opportunity to congratulate mayor-elect Andre Sayegh on his awesome election night victory and for running a campaign to unite all Patersonians. His message of One Paterson resonated with the electorate.

I believe that Paterson’s best days are ahead of her. He will govern the city the same way he campaigned — always putting Paterson and its citizens first.

I also want to commend all of the other mayoral and council candidates who decided to get into the arena. As Patersonians, we must be about the people’s business and put petty differences aside.

Let’s work for the betterment of the city.

I’m reminded by what president Abraham Lincoln said in his first inaugural address: “I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.”
