Fire displaces seven people from their Paterson house

Seven people were displaced by a fire at a house on North 5th Street on Saturday afternoon, according to the American Red Cross.

Both families were provided temporary lodging, food, and clothing by the Red Cross. They were displaced as a result of a fire at the two-story house at 56 North 5th Street.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 4:45 p.m. to find smoke coming out of the roof and heavy fire in the rear of the building.

Fire reached second alarm as firefighters battled the flames in the attic. Firefighters had the blaze under control at 6:18 p.m.

A second building, 58 North 5th Street, sustained exposure damage. But, flames were prevented from spreading to the neighboring building.

Fire at 56 North 5th Street rekindled at midnight. Firefighters conducted fire watch.
