The city has awarded a contract to a Morris County car dealership to buy seven police interceptor SUVs for $218,666, according to municipal records.

Morristown-based Beyer Ford was awarded the contract on Tuesday night to supply the 2018 Ford SUVs.

The new vehicles, being purchased using some of the $1 million the city received from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA)’s Anti-Violence/Out-of-School Grant Program, will be used by the city’s Community Policing division, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

The city awarded a second contract worth $39,760 to Major Police Supply of Kenvil for police equipment like lights and sirens for the new units.
