Mayor-elect Andre Sayegh picked attorney Vaughn McKoy to serve as business administrator in his incoming administration on Friday afternoon.

McKoy is replacing state senator Nellie Pou in the role.

“Vaughn has extensive experience as an attorney, business executive, and civic leader. He has done a great job in coordinating the efforts of the transition team’s various committees,” said Sayegh. McKoy over the past month and half served as the chief of Sayegh’s transition team. “I have come to rely on Vaughn’s ability to build consensus, his legal knowledge, and his business acumen. I am very glad that he will bring these valuable characteristics to our team.”

McKoy has worked as the president of the PSEG Foundation. He also served as associate general counsel, general state regulatory counsel, and vice-president and managing director for PSEG Long Island.

“I wholeheartedly embrace Mayor-Elect Sayegh’s vision for the future of our city, and I’m honored to serve in his upcoming administration,” said McKoy. “The business community, both within and outside Paterson, will play a vital role in building prosperity that will benefit our city. I’m very excited to begin working with Mayor Sayegh, his administration and the City Council members – many of whom I’ve known for a long time – in leveraging Paterson’s resources for the benefit of the people who live, work, worship and recreate in Paterson.”

McKoy has served as the director of the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice.

Pou made $123,000 as business administrator, a post that is the second highest ranking in the city after the mayor. She is leaving the city after 37 years, she said on Friday afternoon.

McKoy has a bachelor’s in justice administration from Rutgers University – New Brunswick. A juris doctorate from Rutgers University’s School of Law. And a master’s in business administration from New York University.

Sayegh picked Khalifah Shabazz to serve as law director. She is replacing Domenick Stampone, who will remain as an attorney in the legal department.

He also named Kathleen M. Long as chief of staff yesterday.

Both Shabazz and Long live in Paterson. McKoy, who grew up in Paterson, lives in New Brunswick. He chronicles his life growing up in the Silk City in the book “Playing Up: One Man’s Rise From Public Housing To Public Service Through Mentorship.”

“He is as Paterson as it gets,” said Sayegh on Friday afternoon.
