Congressman Bill Pascrell is doing well and taking a break after suffering from heat exhaustion late Tuesday morning.

Pascrell is being kept for observation. His office said he is “doing fine and resting comfortably.” He was at an event in Englewood to announce the passage of the Firefighter Cancer Registry Act when he suffered the heat exhaustion attack.

He was scheduled to announce the passage of the new law at the Englewood Fire Department Headquarters with senator Bob Menendez at 11:30 a.m.

The heat index at the event reached 102 degrees Fahrenheit, his office said.

Pascrell, 81, was at a press conference at the Riverside Terrace in Paterson earlier in the morning. He celebrated the federal government’s approval to demolish the crime-ridden and rundown housing complex to replace it with new townhouses.
