The city has agreed to pay $24,000 to settle a woman’s slip-and-fall lawsuit. Carol Hinton fell and injured herself in front of a grocery store four blocks from her home, according to court documents.

Hinton filed a lawsuit against the De La Cruz Grocery at 123 16th Avenue. She also named the city, the county, and the state in her lawsuit.

She tripped and fell on the sidewalk in front of the business on Sept. 29, 2015 sustaining “severe personal injuries,” according to her lawsuit.

The case remains ongoing. The city wanted to extricate itself from the lawsuit to avoid incurring continued legal expenses.

Municipal officials agreed to settle the case earlier in the month.
