Police arrested a man from Clifton allegedly in possession of a semi-automatic handgun and armor piercing bullets while dispersing a large crowd on East 23rd Street.

Christopher Lockhart, 27-year-old, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of armor piercing ammunition, possession of high capacity magazine, and certain person not to have a weapon, authorities said.

Lockhart was among a large group of people causing a disturbance on East 23rd Street and 12th Avenue at around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday.

Police officers excited their vehicles to disperse the group. Detectives Rolando Polio and Richard McAusland saw Lockhart remove a handgun from his waistband and put it behind a garbage can in front of a residence.

Lockhart tried to walk away from the area, but was immediately detained and secured. Police recovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun from behind the garbage can.

The seized weapon is being submitted to the New Jersey State Police Laboratory for examination.

A second man became disruptive while detectives were conducting their investigation. He was arrested and charged with disorderly persons offense, police director Jerry Speziale said.
