Municipal officials recognized 11 employees in observance of the National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The city recognized:

Majority of the honorees have been serving the city for decades. Council president Maritza Davila described them as the city’s “unsung” heroes.

Honorees were picked by the mayor and council members.

Some of the honorees are trailblazers, who opened the doors for others.

For example, deputy chief Del Valle became the first firefighter of Hispanic descent to have attained the ranks of battalion chief and deputy chief at the fire department, according to municipal records.

The honorees were recognized in a ceremony held at the City Council chambers on Friday afternoon.
