Paterson traffic stop yields two arrests, drugs on Hamilton Avenue

A vehicle stop on Hamilton Avenue yielded two arrests and drugs early Friday morning, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Kendel Cooks, 26, and Jaheem Isbell, 19, were arrested during the traffic stop on Hamilton Avenue and Carroll Street at around 2 a.m.

cooks-and-isbellCooks is charged with drug possession, distribution, distribution within 500 feet of a public property, and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said. Isbell is charged with drug possession and hindering by providing a false name.

Authorities confiscated 60 glassine envelopes of heroin and a pipe used to smoke drugs from Cooks. 10 bags were stamped “I’ll be Back” in red ink, 50 bags were stamped “Death Row” in blue ink,” and 1 bag stamped “XO” in pink ink.

Cooks, the driver, was found to have a suspended license and two active warrants out of Paterson and South Hackensack.

Isbell, passenger, gave police a fake name. He had a criminal extradition warrant out of North Carolina.

Both Paterson residents are being held at the Passaic County Jail.
