The police issued 1,627 motor vehicle summonses and seized 1,793 glassine envelopes of heroin during a special operation that took place over the Memorial Day weekend, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said police also issued 169 ordinance violations. 14 warrant arrests were made. 56 quality of life property checks were conducted.

Police seized a Glock handgun, said the director. 46 Percocet tablets, 41 baggies of suspected crack cocaine, 1 bag of fentanyl, and 1 tablet of fentanyl were seized in the operation.

The special operation was conducted with the assistance of federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies, Speziale said. He said police deployed air assets, undercover units, patrol, traffic, emergency response, K-9, and Ceasefire Unit officers to curb violence and combat quality of life problems.

“This weekend’s operation was a success. Our police department removed drugs and guns off of our streets. There is more to come,” mayor Andre Sayegh said in a statement on Tuesday morning.
