Seven people running for three Paterson school board seats

paterson-boe

Seven people are vying for three up-for-grabs school board seats in November, according to the Passaic County Clerk’s Office.

Incumbents Emanuel Capers and Robinson Rondon are seeking re-election. Their colleague Eddy Olivares, who won a seat last November in a special election, is not seeking re-election.

Olivares said he is foregoing the school board race to prepare for a run for the 4th Ward council seat next year.

Former school boards member Vincent Arrington and Corey Teague are seeking to regain their seats on the Board of Education.

Other candidates in the race are:

  • Dania Martinez
  • Jeyss Abreu
  • Iris Rigo.

Abreu ran unsuccessfully for the 6th Ward council seat last year against councilman Al Abdelaziz.

Arrington, Martinez, and Abreu are running as a bracket under the slogan “Paterson Children First.”

Rondon and Rigo are running as a bracket under “United for Change.”

Teague is running in a bracket by himself under “Paterson Children Advocate.”

Correction: A previous version of this report erroneously stated Olivares is running for the 2nd Ward council seat. He is in fact running for the 4th Ward seat.

These prospective and current school board members need to quit using the school board as a vehicle to get to city council. They need to stop pretending that they care about these students.
