Paterson: Bicyclist dies after colliding with tow truck on River Street

A bicyclist has died after colliding with a tow truck in the area of River Street on Sunday morning, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

While riding on a bicycle Gerard Webb, 46, of Paterson, crashed into the side of a tow truck at the intersection of River and Sassafras streets at around 11:48 a.m., authorities said. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Saint Joseph’s University Hospital for treatment.

Webb died from his injuries at 1:23 p.m., authorities said.

Police said the tow truck driver, 38-year-old Antonino Barbera of Fair Lawn, remained at the scene. He presented a valid driver’s license to police, authorities said.

Investigation remains active and ongoing, authorities said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Paterson Police Department Traffic Bureau at 973-321-1112.
