Paterson police arrest 17 people in Broadway drug sweep

The police arrested 17 people during their investigation into drug dealing in the area of 282 Broadway, according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Maria Maldonado, 65, of Paterson; Yazan Taha, 25, of Carlstadt; Susan Khater, 33, of Fairfield; Nader Yasin, 31, of Paterson; Anthony Giantonio, 38, of West Milford; Shawn Young, age unknown, of Paterson; Edgar Baez, 50, of Paterson; Willie King, 65, of Paterson; Roshard Brown, 38, of Paterson; Latoya Cross, 28, of Paterson; Wanda Girao, 50, of Paterson; Tamika Johnson, 47, of Paterson; Terry Walker, 40, of Paterson; Cornell Ruffin, 41, of Paterson; Jarret Williams, 37, of Paterson; Jermaine Yough, 48, of Paterson; and Dusean Singletary, 46, of Paterson, were arrested on various drug charges.

Walker, Ruffin, Singletary, Yough, Williams were charged with 23 drug offenses, according to police.

Others were charged with possession.

Baez was charged with loitering to commit a drug offense.

Police seized 89 Suboxene strips, 75 Alprazolam, 2 Clonazepam pills, 7 glassine envelopes of heroin, 5 bags of marijuana, and 12 counterfeit $100 bills.

Police confiscated $95 from Walker; Ruffin, $93; Williams, $65; Yough, $213; Singletary, $220; and Girao, $43.

Speziale on Monday said the investigation took place in August and September.
