The city is getting $325,000 in Passaic County Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund grants to revive the Ivanhoe Wheelhouse and make improvements to Eastside Park.

Passaic County officials granted $175,000 for the Ivanhoe Wheelhouse, a tiny building on Spruce Street, close to the Great Falls; and $150,000 for Eastside Park.

“The Open Space Trust Fund supports the beautification, restoration and maintenance of many of our county parks, historic sites and infrastructure,” said Passaic County freeholder director John Bartlett in announcing the grants last week. “Current ongoing projects like the Dundee Island Improvements Project and the Goffle Brook Park Improvements Project, once completed, not only create a beautiful and welcoming environment for families, but also, attract tourism and revenue to our individual municipalities, which in turn, increases property value for our home owners”.

The county distributed $973,000 to Paterson, Clifton, Little Falls, Pompton Lakes, and Wayne. Other grants are as follows:

Both nonprofits and municipal governments apply for open space funding every year.

“The Open Space Trust Fund has provided millions in funding to support the needs of our municipalities and non-profits,” said deputy freeholder director Cassandra “Sandi” Lazzara. “The Open Space Awards re-affirm Passaic County’s commitment in improving all Passaic County communities in collaboration with municipal governments and community organizations”.
