A quality of life sweep on Van Houten Street between East 18th and Summer streets, a part of Paterson known for drugs and prostitution, yielded a dozen arrests on Thursday, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Detectives arrested Amanda Tintle, 30, of Paterson; Christina May, 36, of East Brunswick; Rocky Davida, 42, of Kearny; Ashley Freeman, 28, of Paterson; Chantel Hurley. 24, of Paterson; Jennifer Graham, 34, of Paterson; Rebecca Harding, 31, of Prospect Park; Jamielynn Beneduce, 36, of Paterson; Brian Williams, 47, of Little Ferry; William Cook, 46, of Paterson; Julia Marcello, 27, of Glen Rock; and Robbie Morris, 42, of Oak Ridge.

Tintle, May, Freeman, Hurley, Graham, Harding, Beneduce, Williams, and Cook were each charged with loitering to commit prostitution. Davida, Marcello, and Morris were each charged with remaining or prowling in a public place to obtain drugs.

Tintle was additionally charged with aggravated assault on an officer. She allegedly became agitated, refused to cooperate in the booking process and struck a detective in the chest. She had outstanding warrants out of Paterson and River Edge.

Many of those arrested had outstanding warrants, authorities said.

Freeman had an outstanding warrant out of Newark. Hurley had an outstanding warrant out of the Passaic County Superior Court. Graham had outstanding warrants out of Paterson and Garfield. Harding had warrants out of Paramus, Paterson, and Saddle Brook.

Berdnik said the operation was conducted due to citizen complaints.

“I want to commend the members of the Sheriff’s Office involved in the planning and execution of this detail. Residents need to feel comfortable in their own neighborhood and home. Any type of criminal activity that violates our laws will be enforced,” Berdnik said.
