A teen has been charged with juvenile delinquency for crashing a vehicle on Getty Avenue after leading police on a chase from Haledon to Paterson, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police in Haledon attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of the stolen 2007 Saab 9-5 driven by the 15-year-old at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The driver did not pull over. Police began to pursue the vehicle, ending up at the intersection of Getty Avenue and Hospital Plaza, where the vehicle crashed into an utility pole.

Three occupants were in the vehicle. Two were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and the third ran from the scene of the crash, authorities said.

Police said the 16-year-old occupant suffered serious injuries.

Authorities’ said if the conduct was committed by an adult it would constitute aggravated assault, eluding police, and receiving stolen property.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The driver is being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
