Superintendent Eileen Shafer is receiving $19,408 for accomplishing some of the goals the school board outlined for her in the 2018-19 school year.

School board members approved the payment on Wednesday night.

Shafer met three of the five goals outlined by the school board. She received $7,758 for increasing the number of students scoring three or above in College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exams by 25-percent. She received $5,825 for developing a five-year strategic plan. And another $5,825 for a meeting with business administrator and technology director to devise a plan to maintain the main distribution frame (MDF) at Eastside High School to minimize service interruption in the district.

Shafer failed to meet the goal of increasing standardized English exam scores by 8.5-percent. She also fell short of boosting graduation rate by 2-percent.

Shafer could have earned $34,926 in bonus payments on top of her $233,000 salary if she met all five goals outlined by the board. Her bonus payments are much more generous than her predecessor, Donnie Evans.

Evans received just $10,900 in bonus payments for his last year in the district.

School board members approved the bonus payments without any public discussion at their regular meeting.
