An alleged drug dealer was arrested on Monday morning in possession of heroin packets stamped “Corona Virus,” according to public safety director Jerry Speziale.

Tyrone Redd, 53, of Paterson, dropped a green vial of crack cocaine and a baggie of heroin stamped “Corona Virus” while fleeing police in the area of Godwin Avenue and Auburn Street at around 10:30 a.m.

Redd ran towards Straight Street with police behind him. He ran into a yard and hid in a small alleyway. Police ordered him out of the tight alleyway, but he told the officer, ‘F— no.” He continued to squeeze through the alleyway in an effort to escape from police.

Police placed Redd under arrest after a brief struggle. He had 11 vials of crack and 2 additional baggies of ‘Corona Virus’ heroin on his person, police said. Police charged him with drug possession, intent to distribute, intent to distribute near a school and a park, and obstruction of governmental function by flight.

“While we work feverishly to stop the spread of this virus, we are also working to stop the spread of drugs in Paterson,” mayor Andre Sayegh said.
