Two men have died from the new coronavirus in Paterson as the number of people tested positive climbed to 102, according to municipal officials.

Mayor Andre Sayegh on Wednesday afternoon said the latest fatalities were a 70-year-old man and an 84-year-old man. A 69-year-old woman became the first death in the city, officials said over the weekend.

Sayegh ordered the closure of municipal parks yesterday to curtail gatherings. Some residents had complained people were gathering at Eastside Park amid governor Phil Murphy’s state-at-home order.

Coronavirus cases in Passaic County surged to 255 on Wednesday. These numbers are expected to increase as more people are tested with the opening of a drive-thru testing center at William Paterson University. Overall, New Jersey reported 4,402 cases of Covid-19 and 62 deaths. 10,452 people tested negative for the virus, according to the New Jersey Department of Health.
