Fight Over 12-Percent Tax Hike

As the officials in City Hall waited until the very last moment to prepare and discuss a budget, now there seems to be an issue: how to fill a 2 million dollar hole.
The mayor’s office wants to increase taxes by almost 12-percent, while the City Council demands the administration cut some of its spending. Some council-members have indicated they will support a one digit tax increase but not anything more.
Both the mayor and the council will likely reach an agreement on the budget for losing 20 million dollars is not in the best interest of either party.
But if a budget is not approved soon the city could lose almost 20 million dollars in aid from the State.
