City Rehires 17 Crossing Guards

For the past year or so the city’s public schools did without crossing guards because the police department, lacking in funds, could not hire them. As a result police officers were tasked — despite other more pressing matters to attend to — with crossing school children from one side of the road to the other.
This week the city rehired 17 crossing guards with the blessing of the State.
Despite the new rehiring more than a hundred designated school crossings will remain without guards which will be staffed with police officers.
