Scholarship for Hispanic students

Most Patersonians aspire to attend college while in high school, some are able to fulfill their hope of getting into a college, while others sometimes due to financial pressures give up. Yesterday, we were informed of a scholarship opportunity for students of Hispanic extraction; the Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of New Jersey, a non-profit organization, is accepting applications that will award students up to $4,000 in scholarship money towards their education, the organization said, “Scholarships up to $4,000 each will be disbursed directly to the college or university of the student’s choice during the 2013-2014 school term. “
Well over 57 percent of Patersonians are of Hispanic origin which qualifies more than half of the city to send in an application. The organization seeks to give away $40,000 in scholarship and stipends, “$1,000 stipends for books and other course required materials,” according to the announcement.
There are requirements: students must complete 80 hours of community service between June 2013 and June 2014, and remain enrolled in an accredited institution with a grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher to remain qualified for scholarship dollars.
Thursday, February 28, 2013 is the deadline for applicants to send in a completed form which can be found here. “Interviews and the final award selection will be completed in April 2013 and the scholarships will be presented at the Foundation’s 22nd Annual Scholarship Gala to be held at The Estate at Florentine Gardens in River Vale, New Jersey on Thursday, May 30, 2013,” read a statement from the organization.
Patersonians of Hispanic extraction, who are currently attending college or are college-bound (high school seniors set on going to college), are encouraged to apply.
