Andre Sayegh, the 6th Ward councilman, who had been serving as the vice president of the city council for the past year under the presidency of Anthony Davis, the 1st Ward councilman, has been selected to take the center seat in the city council.

Mr Sayegh was voted into the president’s seat by Mohammed Akhtaruzzaman, the 2nd Ward councilman, Ruby Cotton, 4th Ward councilwoman, Julio Tavarez, 5th Ward councilman, Kenneth McDaniel, councilman at large, and a vote from himself.

Mr Davis who had the seat for the past two years squandered his chances the moment he cozied up with Chris Christie, the republican gubernatorial candidate; Mr Davis was not even nominated for the ceremonial role.

Mr Sayegh, who has political aspirations to become the city’s mayor and hopes to run next year, lost in 2010 in a failed bid for that office; however, with the presidency as a pulpit he may be able to convince more Patersonians to vote for him the next time around with the extra air time he will receive in the television broadcasted city council meetings.

That is all the council president receives: extra air time – in terms of usefulness anyway.
