Essex County Sheriff’s Officer and a city resident shot on Straight Street

Two people were wounded outside a liquor store on Straight Street during the early morning hours of Sunday, according to the Paterson Police Department.
Oneil Peart, the first victim, an Essex County Deputy Sherriff’s Officer, a city resident, was in front of the store at around 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, when an unidentified gunman began firing. The shot landed on Peart’s torso, according to police.
The second victim, also a city resident, 22-year-old, was standing in front of the store, and was wounded when the gunman fired multiple rounds. Both victims were rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment; both men are in stable condition at the hospital.
Police have yet to figure out the shooter’s motive, and are continuing to investigate the shooting.
